Barbecued Spareribs (6 servings)

3 pound spareribs, cut servings
1 medium onion
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp lemon juice
1 cup catsup
3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp mustard
1 cup water
1/2 cup chopped celery, if desired
salt and red pepper

Brown spareribs on all sides.  Brown onion in hot fat; add remaining ingredients and cook slowly until flavors are blended, about 15 minutes.  Pour sauce over browned spareribs.  Cover and bake in moderate oven (350ºF) 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until done.
