Chewy Oatmeal Cookies

1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
2 egga
1tsp soda
1/4 cup boiling water
1/2 tsp salt
1tsp vanilla
2 cups sifted fluor
2 cups oats
optional: chocolate chips, nuts.

Cream shortening and sugar firmly packed, add well beaten eggs, soda dissolved in boiling water, salt, vanilla.  Mix sifted fluor and oats.

Add to creamed mixture and mix well, drop by tsp on greased cookie sheet and bake until done.

You can add nuts or chocolate chips or both.
