Mother's Almond Cake

3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 1/2 cups sifted fluor
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
3 tsp baking powder
8 egg whites
1 tsp almond extract
1/2 tsp rose extract

Cream butter and sugar together into a large bowl, until smooth and light.  Mix and sift dry ingredients. Add fluor mixture and milk alternately, beating with an over-and-over motion, never stirring. Add almond and rose extract, then withes of eggs beaten until stiff, folding in carefully but quickly.
Bake about 20-25 minutes to 400ºF (205ºC).  Turn out layers to cool.
Put together with "Almond Paste Filling".  Ice top and sides with "Boiled Frosting". See recipes in blog.
