Graham Brown Bread


2 cups unsifted graham fluor
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
2 cups sweet milk
2 tsp soda

Dissolve soda in the milk.  Combine the dry ingredients with the molasses, egg and milk.  Steam in a double boiler three hours.

Brown Bread 1


1 1/2 cups hot water
1 cup quick rolled oats
2 tbsp shortening
2/3 cup molasses
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup fluor, sifted
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt

Pour the hot water over the rolled oats; add the shortening, molasses, cornmeal and the fluor, sifted with the soda and salt.  Pour into greased container and steam for 3 hours.

Togus Loaf

1 cup cornmeal
1 cup fluor
1 cup sweet milk
1 cup sour milk
1/2 cup molasses
1 tsp soda, rounding
1 tsp salt

Combine the ingredients an given, adding the wet ingredients to the well mixed fluor, cornmeal, soda and salt.  Steam for  2 1/2 hours in a brown bread tin, greased throughly to avoid stickin.  This recipe has a different texture and taste then regular brown bread.

Brown Bread


2 cups graham fluor
1 cup white fluor
1 cup sweet milk
1 cup sour milk
1 cup molasses
1 1/2 tsp soda
1 tsp salt

Sift the fluors, but use the coarse parte of the graham, also.  Add the soda to the sour milk and dissolve.  Add the liquids, all at once, to the dry ingredients; stir just enough to mix.  Put in a pail and set in a kettle of water and steam for 3 hours, or in 2 or 3, 1 pound cans.
